#Movember

Helping Boomer Joe Moellering support Operation Heal our Heroes’ mission to end veteran suicide.

If you work in BoomTown’s Charleston office you may have noticed that every November Boomer Joe Moellering, Senior Manager, Training & Community begins to sport a longer & longer….mustache. If you ask him, he’ll tell you its because its #Movember!! - a nationwide men’s movement whose mission is to Help men live happier, healthier, longer lives by allowing their mustaches to grow in solidarity throughout the month of November & change the face of men’s health. Joe uses this opportunity to raise money for his good friend’s nonprofit whose mission is to end veterans suicide.

So, in honor of Military Families Month + Veterans Day (11.11) Joe invites ALL BOOMERS (him, her & they) to join him in supporting Operation Heal our Heroes! Whether through a donation, or raising awareness by growing a mustache, or through your own mental health practice of dedicated mindfulness or meditation each day throughout the month of November.

His goal is 2,000 for 2022 - let’s help him beat it!!

BoomTownLOVE will match every donation as well as donate on behalf of Boomers who meet their meditation goals up to 1,000 total during the month of November!

Mustachioed: Join in support of this valuable cause and grow those ‘staches during November!  We will be donating in support of those repping by donating 250 per ‘stache to the goal! When anyone asks or comments – use it as an opportunity to share the mission of this amazing organization.

Un-mustachioed: You’re not left out! We want to use this focus on ending veteran suicide in support of everyone’s mental health & wellness. Let’s Go for it! during the month of November and MEDITATE.

If you can, block off 10 minutes on your calendar at least 3 times a week to simply sit still & breathe. There are many helpful apps like Headspace and Calm that walk you through where to start. A useful website to begin your meditation journey is Mindful. There is even a Veterans Yoga Project  where you can take a virtual online yoga class daily.  While everyone may have different ideas on what meditation means to them, take this time in November to make it meaningful for you and your mental health!

Be sure to post & follow our progress on the BoomTown SLACK #btlove channel!

Joe’s Story:

Everett Weston and I were pledge brothers in college where he was in Army ROTC & after graduating was deployed to Iraq.

After serving in Iraq, he retired a Captain and returned home and began to transition back to civilian life. He unfortunately lost a good friend & fellow veteran to suicide & realized that many veterans face a variety of struggles, both physical & mental, after serving in the military that go beyond the most well known, PTSD.

He didn't feel like there was enough support & resources available & founded Operation: Heal our Heroes as a tribute to a fallen friend in hopes that he can provide additional services and support to other veterans struggle in their return home and prevent additional suicide within this veteran community. After hearing Everett share this personal story with me, and many other stories of people he knew or family and friends who have also lost loved ones to suicide after serving our country, I felt it was an important mission and community to support.

So please join me in supporting this wonderful organization as they work to save the lives of 20 veterans every day.

Operation: Heal Our Heroes’ mission is to end veteran suicide.

Many Americans are unaware of the fact that every single day nearly 20 U.S. military combat veterans are lost to suicide.  Many find the transition back to civilian life incredibly stressful. Veterans frequently find it difficult to admit they’re struggling and ask for help.  Also, there simply aren’t enough mental health resources available for the number of veterans who need it - this is where Operation: Heal Our Heros steps in – to raise awareness & help provide support resources to veterans re-entering stateside life after combat.
